what
if… a
couple of adventurous musicians decided to shun convention and perform the
music of the great composers on instruments that weren’t even invented
when the music was written?
what
if… those musicians took familiar classics like Rimsky-Korsakov’s
Flight of the Bumblebee, and
re-branded it the Flight of the
Funky Bee? Or how about a
jazzed up version of Mozart’s
Lacrimosa, aptly named the Lacrishmooza?
On
September 23, 2008
, the accordion and
clarinet duo, Acclarion, gives
classical music a makeover with the release of their second CD, what
if...? If you never
thought you’d hear an accordion and clarinet performing Schubert’s famous Arpeggione
Sonata; if you’re intrigued to hear what Mozart’s Marriage of Figaro Overture sounds like with accordion and bass
clarinet; if you’d like to hear a clarinet choir replace the strings and
an accordion replace the piano in J.C.
Bach’s Concerto in E flat
major, then you will want to experience this unique album.
The husband and wife duo of David
and Becky Carovillano have
brought their signature sound to audiences across
Canada
and the
United States
.
Since their debut self-titled CD was released in 2004, Acclarion
has toured extensively, including their recent 17 city tour of the
United States
.
Composers from
Canada
,
France
, and the
Czech
Republic
have written music for
them, while David continues to arrange and compose the majority of the
group’s repertoire. Their
live concerts include hilarious stage banter, costumes, and breath-taking
virtuosity, which regularly garner standing ovations.
True to their desire to entertain, David and Becky’s 2006 wedding
included a concert for those in attendance.
It was there that they debuted the pieces, Sempiternal,
a work for clarinet, accordion, and piano, and Passages, written for alto clarinet, accordion, and harp.
Both of these pieces are also featured on the upcoming release, what if…?
Looking
forward, Acclarion continues to develop new exciting programs for the duo,
as well as their expanded quartet, which adds viola and tuba. They
have also been invited back for a second tour of the United States in
2009.
